
Although some trains are equipped with sound alert system to warn drivers if a danger signal is passed there are many instances of them not working due to inadequate maintenance and it is essential that a visual lookout is maintained at all times particularly on the 125mph trains of the type involved in this incident.
Richard Branson's Virgin Trains have a reputation for delays and poor service. They have topped the table of customer complaints. Excuses put forward include; "Run out of fuel" - - - "We can't find a driver"- - - " Drivers door has fallen off".
Driver's announcements over the on train speaker system have included;
"Has any passenger got an adjustable spanner to lend me"!
